Is it possible to become a MMA fighter without getting cauliflower ears?
If a person wanted to start training to be a MMA fighter, but they didn’t want to get cauliflower ears – what should they do?
Is there a way not to get cauliflower ears? Or, does that just come with the territory?
There are some people who never ever get cauliflower ears– lucky little bastards! If you do start getting cauliflower ear just get those babies drained ASAP. Becoming BFF with your ear, nose, and throat specialist is my advice. There is no other way than that. One BJJ black belt told me that you can alieviate some of the problem by some advil or tylenol because it thins out the blood. I’m not sure how correct that is.
When I went to my ENT specialist he told me you get cauliflower ear mainly from wrestling and strikes to the ears because it ruptures the perichondrium. This creates a sandwich in your ears that is filled with blood. The blood dries up and walla you get yourself a cauliflower delight. It gets worse because the perichondrium hasn’t been fixed so it just continues from the former trauma and persisted trauma. It usually begins to expand through the upper area of the ear. So, like I said, become BFFs with your ENT specialist, invite him to slumber parties, or whatever. I’ve been one of the lucky guys who hasn’t gotten cauliflower ears, but I know it’ll happen.
